Obligatory Food Post

The other day I tweeted about making a soup. Here is the sorta recipe…I don’t exactly measure anything.

Chicken in a BowlPrep from the day before: Baked two whole medium chickens in a roaster. Rubbed the chicken inside and out with butter with two teaspoons (roughly) of minced garlic in it. Little bit of water in the bottom of the roaster, 450 degrees for 90 minutes. Let cool and deboned them. The bones I boiled and made broth.



  • Shredded Chicken (The meat from about one whole)
  • Chinese or Napa Cabbage (I ended up using about 8 leaves)
  • 7 Roma Tomatoes
  • Chicken Broth


  • Garam Masala (A Blend of Spices used in Indian Dishes)

    Cumin, Black Pepper, Cilantro, Ginger, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Cloves (I use    Cilantro as a substitute for coriander and Ginger as a substitute for Cardamom. I      found the original recipe here.)

  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Celery Salt
  • Celery Seed
  • Two Bay leaves
  • Minced Dried Onion
  • Minced Garlic

Broth in a crockpot. Chop up the cabbage and saute. I used butter and sauteed the minced garlic and onion first. Salt and Pepper.  Toss the cabbage and shredded chicken into the chicken broth. Add the bay leaves, celery seed, celery salt, and some garam masala. Chop up the tomatoes and saute. Sprinkle with celery salt and garam masala.  Toss them in as well. Stir. Cook on high for a few hours. Taste. Add more seasoning as wanted.

It turned out really delicious.  I wanted to make homemade bread but we didn’t have yeast and I didn’t want the text of quick bread. So did freezer rolls that are amazing. Hope some of you try this “recipe” tasty and simple.
